Floorstanding speakers are larger loudspeakers that are designed to be placed on the floor without a speaker stand. They come in different sizes and are popular for larger rooms where space is not an issue. The bigger cabinets can contain dedicated drivers for different frequency ranges which allow for a more immersive sound experience.

No speaker type is inheritantly superior to another. Room size and acoustics in the space can significantly  impact how a speaker might sound. A good bookshelf speaker on stands can sound better in smaller rooms than a big floorstander. Floorstanding speakers tend to have a deeper bass due to a dedicated driver, which is preferred by some listeners.
